This highly desirable Surf Green U1 is from the original late nineties reissue series of the classic Danelectro models. These Korean-built models had it in spades over the later Chinese releases, with significantly better build quality than the fifties and sixties models.
The ultimate surf guitar!
The U1 is perhaps the ultimate surf guitar, with its famous Dano single lipstick pickup, hardtail bridge, stacked tone and volume control, plus the modern twist of the very cool, clear scratchplate.
An absolute dream to play
You also get vintage ridge-back style deluxe Gotoh tuners, plus a gloriously wide Rosewood fingerboard, (in a really nice shade of rich, dark chocolate), that is so lightly radiused, (20” profile), that it’s almost dead-flat – real vintage style! The action is perfect and the super-lightweight body feels great in your hands, making the U1 an absolute dream to play.
Lagoon Aqua Lacquer
Most of the first Dano reissues were discontinued early in 2006, and prices immediately began climbing, however at just $890, this 1998 model U1 is a great buy. The highly desirable retro Surf Green finish, (called Lagoon Aqua Lacquer in the original catalogues), is teamed with the classic Dano white edge binding, making a U1 the Joe Cool of cool guitars. Plug it in and let the party begin!
Your Dano U1 is in Excellent+ condition, with just some light playwear on the front and negligible wear on the back. Frets and action are are perfect. The guitar comes complete with its original – and now extremely rare – Danelectro tweed gig bag, and includes FREE COURIER DELIVERY to any address in Australia. ($100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries. International freight added at checkout)
Historical Note: Nate Daniels premiered the “television-style” stacked volume/tone knobs on his new U-series guitars almost four years ahead of Leo Fender incorporating them on 1960’s new Jazz Bass
