From the company that invented the Dobro, all the way back in 1929, our fabulous square neck 60D is based on a 1930’s Model 60 – at the time, the second highest priced instrument in the Dobro catalogue. It has been owned from new by a recently retired session player from the American south, who is now downsizing to a smaller apartment, and trying to shrink a collection of over forty instruments down to just five or six.
In terrific, all original, player condition, the guitar boasts all of those top-flight features of the thirties model: all Maple body – with a rare one-piece back; Solid Maple neck, with slotted headstock; Rosewood board; and powerful 10½” Dobro cone and spider bridge in a Maple sound-well. Cosmetically, front and rear binding, plus the distinctive “tea-strainer” screen sound holes.
Killer tone and great projection
The 60D was designed for country and bluegrass, but is also popular with many delta blues players. Killer tone and great projection cut it beautifully, whichever way you lean, musically. Due to lockdowns, we still aren’t able to record our usual soundfiles, but here’s a quick YouTube clip of a 60D in action: LINK
The real deal
Understandably the company’s most popular modern era model, the Dobro 60D can be found everywhere from festival stages and big-name studios to pub gigs and back porches. After the company was bought out by Gibson in the nineties, the 60D was re-named the Hound Dog model and Gibson shifted manufacturing to China, at their Epiphone budget line facility. But this is the real deal – a genuine Dobro 60D, fully hand built in Huntington Beach, California.
Free courier delivery
As noted earlier, condition is excellent, with very little to show that it has been professionally owned and played for the last thirty-four years. No dings, no knocks or bumps, no pitting of the metal parts, just some very light playwear here and there, and some light crazing in the nitro lacquer. Complete with its original red-lined hard shell case, (bearing an erroneous notation of Dobro 1969 on the outside), FREE COURIER DELIVERY is included to any address in Australia. $100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries. International freight added during checkout
