We have gone to great lengths to figure out the story of this killer American Deluxe Strat, but, it looks like we will have to be content with about a 98% degree of certainty…
Fortuitous circumstance
Our best guess – along with more “best guessing” from a couple of helpful folk at Fender in California – suggests this Stratocaster was the end result of a series of fortuitous circumstance and happy coincidence.
Jeff Beck
The body is stamped BECK inside. Whether this was intended as an Artist series or a Custom Shop model, there is no way of telling, however it is definitely stamped as a Jeff Beck body, which, at just the body stage, is no different to an American Deluxe, so, if the factory was running short on Deluxe bodies, they would just appropriate some from the Jeff Beck stash.
Vintage White Pearl
Also inside, the paint code signifies Olympic White Pearl, (sometimes referred to by Fender as just Olympic Pearl), however, the color – even the original, un-aged color under the scratchplate – is definitely more Vintage White than Olympic White. The suspicion therefore is that the body started out with a paint code sticker for Olympic White, but was subsequently completed in Vintage White Pearl as a custom order. Adding to the custom color theory is that the only American Deluxe colors listed in the 2007 Fender catalogue were 3-Tone Sunburst, Amber, Montego Black and Chrome Silver.
Great guitars

Just right
Other top features of the American Deluxe include a premium Alder body, locking tuners and a select Rosewood fingerboard, with beautiful Abalone dot inlays, (see pics 6 & 7). Technically a modern-C profile neck, this has a very slightly fuller profile. It’s only just more than the regular profile, fitting the hand just right.
Full pro setup
Complete with its original hard shell case, and just off the workbench, with a full pro setup, the guitar is wearing a new set of ElectroHarmonix 10s, the action is set medium-low, the board has been oiled and the intonation is perfect. Plug this baby in and play, straight out of the case!
