Straight off the Just Guitars workbench with a full, pro setup, including new RotoSound 66 round-wound, 45 – 105 stainless steel strings, (the world famous ‘John Entwistle’ bass strings), this great American made Jazz Bass is the classic example of “when Fender get it right, they really get it right!”
Super clean, all original
A 2004 model, in really super clean, all original condition, with minimal fret wear, minimal play wear, no dings, no scratches, no repairs… this is a bass you’ll be dead proud to own! Alder body, graphite reinforced Maple neck, full 34” scale Rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges, STB bridge, American Vintage Jazz Bass pickups and Fender’s famous S-1 switching system, which goes from series to parallel at the press of the button hidden in the top of the neck pickup volume knob.
Great versatility
Now all but disappeared off the used market, Jazz Basses with S-1 switching give you the best of both Fender bass worlds – full Jazz Bass tone in regular series mode, or P-Bass tone with the button pressed to engage parallel switching. This great versatility has seen a large number of these models taking up residence in private collections and recording studios worldwide, with only the very occasional example coming onto the market. We happened to be in the right place at exactly the right time on our latest US buying trip and were able to snap this one up before the dealer really had time to think about it.
Winning combination
Finished in gorgeous Chrome Red*, (or feel free to call it Candy Apple Red – the two names seem interchangeable at Fender nowadays), with Rosewood board and black scratchplate, this is a real, winning combination. If you’ve seen Robert Forster recently, then other than a tortoise scratchplate, we believe this is the same model as that played by Luke McDonald, in Robert’s current live lineup. The red looks really great under stage lights!
Extended depth
With great sustain from the Alder body, the American Vintage pickups deliver the extended depth that the Jazz Bass is famous for, plus an unmistakable midrange, and highs that can be tone-knob-tweaked to almost guitar tones. It’s almost like “versatile” needs to cover way more ground.
Sounds beyond fabulous
Built at Fender’s plant at Corona in California, across July – September of 2004, the instrument is in Excellent++ condition, and, as mentioned at the start, has just had a full, pro setup, including new RotoSound 66 round-wound, stainless steel strings, and it sounds beyond fabulous.
