Until only four or five years ago there was a presumption that Fender build quality plummeted the moment the giant CBS corporation took over the company at the start of 1965. However, other than a slightly larger headstock for the Stratocaster, little else changed for some time. Our KILLER, one-owner 1966 Strat here features all March/April/May build and component dates, rendering it virtually identical to a '65 model.
Vintage Strat
We'll often have people ask, "Why should I pay all that money for a vintage Strat, when I can get a great looking Custom Shop reissue for a quarter of the price?" You will hear that question answered in spades, once we have our soundfile recorded and uploaded in the next day or two.
Bite, brawn, sparkle and shimmer
This is as good a set of fabulous sixties Strat pickups as any out there - bite, brawn, sparkle and shimmer, it's all there. The neck plays as good as any other cool sixties model we've ever experienced. The Rosewood board - we're fairly sure it's Brazilian - has a spank and spark that's the absolute perfect blend of Rosewood and Maple. Once you pick this axe up and plug in, you're never going to want to put it down!
A time machine
100% original - including its original Australian hard case - this thing is a time machine. As we mention at the front, this is a one owner guitar, bought new in 1966, played for four years then put away - untouched by human (or alien) hands for the past 48 years! If this was a Custom Shop job, it would be somewhere between a Closet Classic and a Light Relic.
Nitro
The electrics are clean; the board was fine, (though we did give it a light oil); there's only those four years of play time on the frets, (see pic # 3); a little bit of playwear on the back of the neck, (pic # 3); plus some "played high" buckle-rash on the back, (pic # 4). The 3-tone nitro Sunburst finish is still vibrant on the Alder body, and, a rarity these days, the bridge "ashtray" cover is still present, (pic # 6). Click back to the previous page and open the additional listing for this guitar, showing the internal pics, plus an amazing list of top acts that this guitar backed in the sixties.
Free courier delivery
As noted, the guitar comes complete with its original Australian hard case, (pic # 8 and main), and ships with FREE COURIER DELIVERY to any address in Australia. ($100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries. International freight added at checkout)
