Like it says on the neckplate, (see pic # 6), 60 years of the Telecaster – without the Tele, it’s debatable that modern music would be a very different entity. The incredibly diverse range of players, and the styles of music they lay down with a Telecaster, pretty much says it all. A tiny sample of those players are shown in pic # 8: Joe Strummer of the Clash; the amazing PJ Harvey; Keith Richards; and Sheryl Crow, shown with her signature model Tele from country legend Buck Owens, one of the pioneering Telecaster players.
Just how Leo Used to do it
Featuring a fabulously grained, solid Ash body, finished in thin Transparent Blonde nitro-based lacquer – just how Leo used to do it – the 60th Anniversary model is a Tele for the modern purist, with a blindingly fine mix of classic features and 21st century refinements. Classic three-way Tele switching, with American Vintage Series pickups; traditional one-piece maple neck, with a 9½” fretboard radius, medium-jumbo frets and rolled edges; Tusq nut*; and a chrome-plated brass bridge plate.
Neck profile
The neck profile here is very slightly tapered, marginally fuller up around the nut, flattening off to closer to a regular modern ‘C’ profile in the vicinity of the 12th fret, making for one of the best playing necks we have encountered.
Pure/Direct
A couple more great Tele enhancements are the bent steel bridge saddles, for more accurate tuning & intonation, plus the famous Delta Tone circuit, (at the 10-position on the tone control), which bypasses the tone circuitry, providing a brighter Tele snap, along with a subtle volume kick. (Think of the Delta Tone as a Pure/Direct switch)

*A custom nut service, which we seem to be undertaking with increasing frequency lately, is replacing existing Telecaster bone or plastic or Tusq nuts with fossilized mammoth tusk ivory. The mammoth tusk nut pulls back some of the upper registry, which can become just a tad too top-endy with many Teles. We hand cut and shape each one to the individual guitar. This is a quick $60 job that can make a world of difference to your Telecaster.
