The Telecaster Thinline, Custom and Deluxe models were Fender’s long-awaited move into the humbucker sector of the seventies guitar market. The company even went as far as hiring Seth Lover – the man who’d developed Gibson’s original non-humming pickups – to design some ballsy non-single-coils that would knock the opposition off their perch.
Two professional players
This guitar has been owned by two professional players in its lifetime, the first for fifteen years or so and the second for around twenty-five, and in the world of professionally owned instruments, that’s about as ringing an endorsement as you could want.
Old timber
When the second owner bought the guitar in the early nineties, it had had a middle pickup installed. This was promptly removed, with old timber expertly refilling the cavity. A genuine replacement scratchplate was also acquired, returning the top to spec.
The neck!
The neck is super, super playable. Lightning fast, due to an incredibly thin profile – think Rickenbacker thin – that is either the thinnest neck Fender ever produced, or that first owner had the neck professionally shaved. We haven’t removed the neck to check, because the guitar plays so phenomenally brilliantly, that we have no desire to interfere with its structural integrity. If it was shaved, then this is surely the most astonishingly fine piece of work we have ever encountered! The neck looks 100% factory original. Just “wizard thin”.

Rare Rosewood fingerboard
An extremely rare Rosewood fingerboard model – only the second or third we’ve ever encountered – this 1975 Telecaster Custom features perfectly clean electrics, medium-low “fretless wonder” style frets, its original hard shell case, plus two vintage-replacement knobs, as shown in pic # 6.
