This guitar is from the very last weeks production of the Tex-Mex Strat, immediately prior to Fender tweaking the specs slightly and re-badging it as the Jimmie Vaughan signature model – it's so close to being a signature model that it even has Fender’s factory ‘Jimmy’ marking on the butt of the neck.
Sonic wonderland
Along with his late brother, Stevie Ray, and a career dating right back to his first band opening for Jimi Hendrix at a show in Fort Worth, Texas in 1969, Jimmie Vaughan, has made some great music over the years, most of it on either his white or trusty sunburst Strats. When Jimmie discovered the sonic wonderland of the Tex-Mex model, it was a marriage made in bluesy rock'n'roll heaven!
Raucously hot
Boasting a factory calibrated set of the famous overwound Tex-Mex pickups, these are raucously hot sounding Stratocasters, with beefier output all round, specially the bridge pickup – and all three pickups sound even more knockdown-bar-axe-fabulous with a good pedal and/or overdrive.
Feels like home
The guitar is completely stock standard, with a solid Alder body; 2-tone Sunburst finish, (this example just on the edge of 3-tone); all Fender USA electronics; vintage USA synchronized tremolo system; vintage-style hardware and standard 5-way Strat selector switch. The one-piece, tinted Maple neck has a 9½” radiused board, medium-jumbo frets, vintage Kluson style tuners and synthetic bone nut. The neck boasts a great, flat-C profile, reminiscent of many stellar fifties examples. The minute you grab hold of this neck, it feels like home. And whereas the signature model’s middle pickup is hard-wired wide open, the Tex-Mex Strat features a master volume control with regular neck and middle position tone controls.
