(And it’s not just Hummingbirds – pretty much every big name guitar model is in drastically short supply at the moment. A few months back there were just eleven left-handed Les Pauls for sale on the entire planet) And like all the other “name” models, Hummingbird prices are going up, up, up. We’ve been telling people for the past twelve months or so, that if you can somehow scrape the money together, buy that guitar you’re chasing right now!
Incredibly detailed
The True Vintage Hummingbirds are incredibly detailed, fully hand built recreations of the 1960 original, featuring a solid Sitka Spruce top, solid Mahogany back & sides, 14/20 fret Mahogany neck, bound Madagascan Rosewood fingerboard, and genuine hide glue construction throughout. (Other modern Hummingbird variations generally cut corners and only use hide glue on the neck joint)
Mother-of-pearl
The fingerboard features the original mother-of-pear split parallelogram inlays, with mother-of-pearl used again on the crown headstock inlay. The pointy end is rounded out with a bone nut and Kluson-style gold tuners.
Hummingbird scratchplate
Luxury touches on the body include 6-ply top binding, 4-ply rear binding, Madagascan Rosewood bridge, with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, and of course, the always striking, hand-painted and engraved Hummingbird scratchplate.
Unmistakeable chime and clarity
These fully hand built instruments were only in production from 2007 to 2013, with this one in 2010, and players and luthiers alike are of the opinion that Hummingbirds really come into their own after around ten years, when the hide glue and timbers have fully settled and begun to really dry out, further enhancing the ‘Birds unmistakeable chime and clarity.
