Gibson made just 139 super high-quality Nouveau instruments, across a few months of 1986/87, before realising they were losing money on every one, (particularly the 12-strings), at which point the specifications were substantially stripped down and the guitars were re-branded as an Epiphone budget line. It’s very rare for any of the original 139 to come onto the market, let alone a 12-string version, and we believe this may be the only one ever offered for sale in Australia.
Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville
Bodies and necks of the production Nouveau models were shaped in Japan, with the instruments then finished and assembled at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, however the 12-string model was available only on a custom order basis, with complete assembly in Nashville – hence the extra deluxe touch of an Ebony fingerboard.
Solid Mahogany back, solid Rosewood sides, solid Spruce top, Mahogany neck, Ebony board – nothing but the very best went into each and every Nouveau instrument, and, as you’d expect, the playability and sound are simply superb! Rosewood bridge, Micarta saddle and nut, fully bound body, plus incredibly beautiful MOP inlay work on both the board and headstock. (This striking version of the Gibson logo is believed to have only ever been used on the Nouveau range)
Beautiful tone that fills the room!
The guitar is in Excellent+ condition, with a dead straight neck, and the tone is exactly what you expect from vintage Gibson instruments. This is one of the very nicest playing and sounding 12-strings we’ve ever had in – beautiful tone that fills the room, with all the 12-string chime and sustain you could ever want!
