Description

Australian blues & alt.country performer, Rory Ellis has spent much of the last ten years touring the world with his Joe Gallacher acoustic – now, it’s time for someone else to take ownership of this fabulous custom built instrument. With the base price of a Joe Gallacher creation currently over $4000. At just $3150, this is virtually an investment in an elite level guitar.

Fabulously warm and articulate

A sweet top end, with fabulously warm and articulate mids – after all, it was built for live performance – this guitar is perfect for fingerstyle playing or old-school blues. And a really nice weight and size, if you find a dreadnaught too large. (Lower bout width is 15”; upper bout is 10¾”. Depth is 3¼” at the neck, 4¼” at the tail)

150 years old

Built along similar lines to the famous old pre-war Martin acoustics, such as the 0-21, complete with slotted headstock and traditional construction methods – including hot hide glue and timber bindings – some of the timbers Joe Gallacher uses are at least 150 years old. The Mahogany back & sides he has used here came from the old Footscray RSL bar. (Here is a LINK to an ABC radio interview with Joe Gallacher, discussing his timbers and techniques)

Wow!

With a pre-war Martin possibly costing $20,000 or more, you’re already maybe $17k ahead here, before you even take into account such features as an Adirondack Spruce top, genuine Waverly tuners, Ebony bridge, Redgum burl headstock veneer and peacock Abalone dot inlays on the Ebony board. Wow!

Regular features include jumbo frets, bone nut and compensated bone saddle, and the slightest hint of a V to the otherwise nicely rounded ‘C’ profile Mahogany neck.

Pickups

Needing a pickup for live work, Rory had famous Melbourne luthier James Cargill install a top of the range LR Baggs ‘Element’ pickup system, which features the greatest dynamic range of any under saddle pickup on the market. But, not one to ever be faced with a system failure onstage, Rory also added a MISI soundhole pickup as a backup. Regularly touring the UK, Rory had seen many artists there using the UK-made MISI units, which boast an incredible 8 hours playing time from just a 60 second charge.

The two pickups have their own output jacks, (pic # 6), and over-tightening of the nut for the MISI jack, during installation, has caused some minor crimping in the timber.

An heirloom instrument

A great guitar from a world famous builder, in fine, professionally toured condition, 100% ready to plug in and play, straight out of the case. Or don’t plug in – just kick back on the couch with it and write beautiful songs. Either way, your Joe Gallacher custom acoustic is an heirloom instrument, that you can have your lifetime with, then pass on to your kids.

Free courier delivery

The guitar comes in Rory’s well-travelled, super-tough, super-light, Fort road case by TRIC of Canada, along with the MISI pickup charger and power adapter. FREE COURIER DELIVERY is included to any address in Australia. ($100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries. International freight added at checkout)
