Description

Since production ceased in 2002, these incredible guitars, hand built in Washington state by luthier Chuck Lindert, (and all named along railway themes), are rapidly becoming some of the world’s most collectible instruments. Lindert introduced his new guitars at the 1997 NAMM trade show in California, attracting instant acclaim. His extraordinary designs also attracted some celebrity owners, with the likes of Noel Gallagher of Oasis, John Squire of the Stone Roses, Ron Wood, David Allen Coe and John Sebastian all keen to be seen onstage with a Lindert Locomotive or Diesel or Conductor.

Hand built in the Pacific North West

The artistically minded Lindert brought his brilliant guitar dreams to fruition on the shores of Lake Chelan, (see pic # 4), in the spectacular mountain country of the northern Cascade Ranges, in America’s Pacific North West. The Lindert models of the first four or five years were all hand built in Chelan, before Chuck decided to direct his artistic endeavors elsewhere. He sold the designs to a partner, who had the guitars copied and built in Korea for a brief time, but by 2002 production had ceased altogether, making the original US models more desirable with each passing year.

Escape Velocity

The two most striking things about Lindert guitars are the oh-so-cool vintage radio styling on the front of the body, complete with cloth “speaker-grill” inserts, and the famous “Thumbs Up” headstock. (Apparently Chuck was so pleased with his original designs, that, after giving himself a mental thumbs-up, he then created the slightly goofy headstock) Less immediately noticeable is Chuck’s “Escape Velocity” neck profile – rounded up around the nut, shifting to an amazingly player-friendly V-profile as you progress towards the body. It’s rumored that the playability of the Escape Velocity neck may have influenced Fender’s decision to introduce their own modern V-profile around ten years ago.

Beechwood Brown

All early Lindert models were finished in this textured, dark rust color – ‘Beechwood Brown’ – with Cream sides and vintage-tint scratchplates. Add in the grill inserts and old bakelite-style chickenhead knobs and it adds up to one extremely cool looking axe.

Incredibly versatile

On the electronics side, the three hand-wound Strat-style single coil pickups, with Strat-style 5-way switching, give you all the Strat-style tone you could want, but with a little extra warmth and vibrancy, thanks to slight tone-chambering and carved MDF body. Incredibly versatile – from rock to blues to R&B to country to thrash, we’ve yet to find a style that the Diesel can’t cut. Click on our soundfile and be impressed!

Fantastic tone and resonance

Twenty-two medium-jumbo frets; fully adjustable six-saddle chrome hardtail bridge, (one of the best bridges we’ve ever come across); old-fashioned slab Rosewood board, with a near-flat 14” radius; pearlescent dot markers; sleek, chrome-button tuners; the Lindert Diesel is an incredibly well appointed guitar. And while it might have Strat-style pickups and switching, it carries noticeably more weight than a Strat, tipping our digital guitar scales at 8lb 12oz, (3.95kg). Every bit of this weight contributes to the Diesel’s fantastic tone and resonance.

Near Mint condition

In all original, Near Mint condition, (the protective plastic is still on the scratchplate!), your Lindert Diesel S ships in a brand new Extreme Bags gig bag. And as with all Just Guitars instruments, shipping is FREE to any address in Australia. ($100 shipping to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries)
