GROOVY BABY!!! Yes, it’s one of the original Musicvox ‘Spaceranger’ guitars from the Austin Powers Goldmember movie. Musicvox made just 200 of these for use in the film, all of which were later tucked away for safe-keeping by the film’s prop-master, who subsequently released a handful at a time every 12 months or so over about a ten year period.
Mint condition
Most Spacerangers were produced in either the vibrant Cherry Sunburst or Goldtop finishes, as featured in the movie, but a handful of alternative colors were produced as options – this is the only Seafoam/Surf Green model that we have ever seen from the movie run. It’s hand-numbered # 7 in the neck pocket and on the butt of the neck, and it’s in absolute Mint condition – untouched since it was delivered to the film set!
A highly impressive package!
Solid Mahogany body, vintage tint Maple neck, (and yes, the photos don’t lie, the tint really is that vivid), Rosewood board with pearl dot markers, chrome-covered mini-humbuckers, 3-way pickup switch, tune-o-matic bridge, 2-ply pearl scratchplate, vintage-style Kluson tuners with greenstone keys, burled dome-top volume & tone knobs. All up, a highly impressive package!
Awesome neck
The awesome neck is somewhere between Rickenbacker-thin and modern, thin C-profile. The board is a genuinely thick chuck of Rosewood, with really nicely color, and which has been buffed almost Ebony smooth.
Massively phallic
The main selling points however are the super nice Seafoam/Surf Green paintwork, and the massively phallic treble-side horn. These guitars stand out from the crowd like dog’s bal… well, they stand out.
Yeah baby
Apparently there were less than 20 Spacerangers finished in Surf Green, none were used in the movie, and this one remained in storage until acquired by Just Guitars – it really is a totally shagadelic collector’s piece. “Yeah, baby!”
