A fully professional grade bass, hand built at the NRP facility in San Luis Obispo, California, the WB-032 has been out of production for over ten years, making this an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire an instrument that will bring something truly unique to your bottom end.
Fretted and fretless configurations
Featuring a Maple body and Maple neck, all finished in Vintage Sunburst, the WB-032 was available in both fretted and fretless configurations, with the fretless fingerboard either completely blank Ebony, or, as with our example here, the optional upgrade of inlaid “ivoroid” fret lines. The 32” scale bass also came either fully acoustic, or could be upgraded to include National’s own Highlander pickup system.
Great acoustic resonator tone
The original owner of the bass was less than impressed with the Highlander pickup arrangement, and after adding a Fishman piezo pickup under the biscuit bridge, subsequently returned the instrument to National, where a rubbed nickel NRP Hotplate system was installed, featuring a Seymour Duncan mini bass humbucker. Our soundfile showcases the instrument’s electric sounds perfectly, but it also has a great acoustic resonator tone when played unplugged or mic’d – or blend in the electronics to give a subtle push in the lower frequencies.
Original NRP hard shell case
Perhaps the ideal combination for a folk/roots player, the WB-032 does also cover a lot of other musical ground. This super cool fretless bass has just had a full pro setup and is totally ready to gig with, right out of its original NRP hard shell case.
