Description

The 513 Rosewood was the original 513 model, featuring a solid Brazilian Rosewood neck & board, and was in production from 2004 until 2007, after which it became the regular 513, with a Mahogany neck and Indian Rosewood board.

Perfect guitar

With its five discrete single-coil pickups, plus 5-way selector switch and 3-way mode switch, (“heavy humbucking”, “clear humbucking”, “single-coil”), the 513 gives the term “perfect guitar” a damn good run for its money! In the simplest possible breakdown, the 513’s switching and tone controls pretty much give you the full range of all the classic big name electric guitar sounds – some have even said that the ‘5’ could just as easily represent Strat, Tele, Les Paul, ES-335 and SG. While a long way short of all-encompassing, our soundfile should give you a pretty good idea of the 513’s amazing versatility. (Great playing, too, Ian!)

10 Tops

Finished in Transparent Whale Blue, the 513 Rosewoods came standard with 10 Tops, and the Maple’s flame here is tight and uniform from side to side. The dark Brazilian Rosewood blends perfectly with the Whale Blue and the black of the pickup covers. Against the Rosewood, the lustre of the mother-of-pearl bird inlays – newly designed in 2004 by PRS Private Stock director, Joe Knaggs – bring a classic elegance to the build. The Paul Reed Smith headstock logo and the truss-rod cover are also inlaid in mother-of-pearl.

An absolute delight to play

Whether you’re a pro player or a back shed player, the 513 was designed to be player functional: 25¼” scale; 10” fingerboard radius; slightly taller & flatter frets; compensated & scalloped nut; the famous PRS proprietary tremolo system… and of course, with that amazing Brazilian neck, (see pic # 6), the guitar is an absolute delight to play. In pic # 7 you might notice that the open-geared Phase II locking tuners were replaced at the factory with PRS closed tuners – at the original owner’s request. (The B-string tuner has subsequently been replaced again)

One of Australia’s leading guitarists

Speaking of the original owner, also shown in pic # 7 is the factory ‘AS’ stamp, signifying that this guitar was shipped to a name artist. We don’t know who that original – presumably American – artist was, but for the past few years the guitar has been owned by one of Australia’s leading guitarists, who has played it extensively. Numerous examples of small dings and play wear are evident in several of the photos – it’s been played professionally and has the battle scars to prove it. There are no structural issues, just little paint and clear-coat dinglets.

Ready and rearing to go

Professionally serviced and maintained, and complete with its original, and well-travelled PRS hard shell case, your Brazilian Rosewood 513 is ready and rearing to go. The minute it arrives, you can head straight to the studio or stage and blow everyone away with your killer new toy!
