Description

From the minute the 360/12 first appeared, in 1964, it has been the world’s most popular twelve-string electric guitar. Nothing else gives you that famous jingle-jangle sound the way a Ric does. From the Byrds to the Beatles, Susanna Hoffs and Tom Petty to Marty Willson-Piper of the Church and Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, the 360/12 has powered innumerable worldwide hits for scores of famous acts.

(Another Rickenbacker 12-string legend is Dave Gregory of XTC. This YouTube feature is quite long, but incredibly engrossing: LINK)

Ingenious tuner arrangement

For many players, one of the 360/12’s big attractions is that the neck and nut are regular guitar width. Most twelve-strings need a wider neck to accommodate all that wire, however Rickenbacker’s ingenious tuner arrangement allows a full 24-fret neck, at standard six-string width.

Crushed glass

Speaking of the tuner arrangement, this 2004 model is one of the very last of the specially carved headstock models. Later that year, to speed production up slightly, the company changed to a design where the routing machines cut the slots for the second set of tuners completely through the headstock, returning to a more traditional, though perhaps less distinctive look. It also has the proper, old-style crushed glass and m.o.p. “shark-fin” inlays.
