We’ll get to the rest of the all-premium S2* specs in a moment, but if there’s one thing John Suhr’s guitars are famous for, it’s their insanely good necks. Truly great guitar necks are few and far between, but every Suhr neck seems to have been lovingly hand-shaped with just one person in mind – you!
One-piece neck
The S2’s one-piece neck, (sleek 60’s ‘C’ shape, 10 – 14” compound radius), starts out super comfortable and before long it’s like those old slippers that you’re never going to get rid of. Your hand slides up and down the natural finish like it’s silk, letting you fret faster and easier than you probably didn’t know was possible.
Vintage tone
Premium body timber, hardware and custom electrics are also all standard in your S2 package, with a solid Alder body, trusted 2-point bridge and tremolo system, Sperzel locking tuners and a pickup system that has ‘vintage tone’ written all over it.
Unparalleled clarity
The SSH pickup combination gives you a pair of Suhr V60LP single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions, for true vintage sixties tone, (rock, blues, country, pop – whatever), plus an SSV humbucker at the bridge. This killer humbucker takes the S2 into the real high gain zone. It can be pushed as hot as you want – think metal and hard rock – while delivering unparalleled clarity at any level. And a nice twist on the regular Strat formula is that the S2’s single tone control delivers across all pickup positions via the standard five-way selector switch.
An absolute breeze!
A 42mm nut width and 22 heavy nickel, low-profile jumbo frets means string-bends on the S2 are an absolute breeze! Or, using the whammy bar, you’ll find the trem system stays true, even with dive-bomb after dive-bomb. This really is an absurd amount of top quality guitar, for very little money.
Scary good
Suhr guitars are all made to order, (the original dealer order sheet, from July 2010, is included in the case – see pic # 7), and every one receives a full factory setup, that includes both Plek’d frets and the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. As one reviewer noted, “These guitars are scary good.”
