As more and more players re-discover the delights of nylon-string guitars, (thanks in part to the fabulous Luka Bloom), it is with great pleasure that we present this lovely, hand-built Taylor model for your consideration.
Great lower end
Taylor introduced their Nylon Series back in 2001, with Bob Taylor stating that these were nylon-string guitars designed with steel-string players in mind. This 2008 model NS32CE features a grand concert-sized body, with the 4-5/8” depth contributing to a great lower end, comparable to that of larger dreadnoughts.
Premium construction
Utilizing all solid timber construction, the NS32CE, (the ‘C’ is for cutaway, the ‘E’ for electric), boasts a Sitka Spruce top, African Mahogany back & sides and an American Mahogany neck. The board and bridge are both Ebony and the soundhole rosette features Mexican Cypress – premium construction, top-to-bottom.
A wide-ranging acoustic
The combination of timbers is the secret to this guitar’s spellbinding tone – warmth and a great, natural low end from the Mahogany, plus spark and clarity from the Spruce and Ebony. You’d possibly need to go up several thousand dollars, to something like a Santa Cruz or Breedlove, to find such a wide-ranging acoustic as this.
Made to be plugged in
Although it sounds just fine acoustically, these guitars were made to be plugged in and that’s where the NS32CE really comes alive – specially via a nice valve amp. The Fishman ‘Acoustic Matrix’ transducer pickup, run through (Taylor-branded) Fishman ‘Prefix Pro’ active electronics, captures every nuance of the Spruce/Mahogany/Ebony combination, producing a wondrously alive palette.
More like a steel-string
Nylon strings means a necessarily wider neck than a steel-string guitar, (1-7/8” at the nut), something Taylor have gotten around with a great, thin profile, for effortless playing till the sun comes up. The guitar really does play much more like a steel-string than a classical guitar. The neck is full 25½” scale, with an uber-flat 15” fingerboard radius. A Tusq nut, (and saddle), complete this marvelous package, fully hand built at Taylor’s facility at El Cajon, on the outskirt of San Diego.
