Fender Musicmaster, 1979. ALL ORIGINAL!
How cool is this? An all original – including its original hard-shell Fender case – February 1979 Musicmaster, in the most highly desirable Black-on-Black – Black finish, Black scratchplate, Black pickup cover – you can’t beat that! (And capping the whole deal off perfectly, a Rosewood board, which always looks much cooler than Maple on a black Fender)
With a single single-coil pickup, single volume and single tone control, this is ya raw rock axe! We’ve noticed Musicmasters popping up quite a bit lately in music videos and on stage – a recent band on Letterman featured an identical model to this, prominently upfront – it sounded awesome, and so does this.
The Musicmaster pickup manages its famous trick of being both warm and bright at the same time – jazz it up, then go straight into rock or blues, a Musicmaster, with its unique, slightly woody tone, will cut it every time. This is a guitar than can take you on some great musical journeys.
This is the more regular 24" scale Musicmaster, (the earlier short-scale models were phased out at the end of the sixties), with a perfectly weighted Alder body. The board and medium-thin C-profile maple neck are ruler flat, and the action right along the dark rosewood board is unbelievably low and perfect, with years of play left on the 22 vintage-style frets. The chrome on the traditional 3-saddle bridge is still shiny and new-looking, as are the original metal button Fender ‘F’ tuners, the screws barely have a speck of rust on them, and the electronics are all original, (pots dated 1978).
Our last Musicmaster was a 1976 model, which sold for $1450 around two years ago, and we suggested then that it would probably be the last chance to grab any seventies model Fender under $1500. Well, prices do keep going up, but we also do our very best to keep them down, so we’re prepared to put ourselves on the line here – and remember, this one comes with its original Fender hard shell case, in extremely fine condition – we’re offering this superb 32 year old Fender at just $1550!
There’s a few very light scratches and small dings, and if you catch it in the light just right, (see pic # 1), it looks like a setlist may have been sticky-taped on the front – but it’s really hard to see. Your 1979 Musicmaster comes complete with its original Black tolex hard shell case, (orange lined), in near perfect condition, complete with the original chrome Fender logo, (pic # 8), and original & functioning interior neck-strap, (pic # 4).
We’ve just strung the guitar with a set of Dean Markley ‘Helix’ 11s, which are bringing out some really nice darker tones, something we’ve not previously heard from a Musicmaster. Whoever grabs this one is in for a real vintage Fender treat!
