Mmmmm, ain’t nuthin’ finer than a vintage Red, all original, super sexy, Fender Mustang! (If you’re even halfway serious about music, you’ve got to have an original Mustang to go with your vintage Strat or Les Paul)

We recently picked up this amazing one owner Mustang in San Diego, and it’s everything a legendary guitar should be – and then some. A serious chunk of solid Ash, weighing in at 8lb 4oz, (3.7kg), with every atom of it resonating stunningly – this Mustang is the epitome of tone! And did we mention all original? Exactly as it left the Fender plant in California 42 years ago, it not only comes in its original Victoria case, but it still has its original bridge cover! (Pic # 1 shows the bridge cover on, while it’s off in pic # 8, showing the individual barrel saddles)

Have we mentioned all original? Original Fender ‘F’ tuners, plus original bridge/tremolo system, (developed for the Mustang’s big brother, the Jazzmaster), with individual barrel saddles, (pic # 8). The guitar also has its original, uniquely curved tremolo arm – the Mustang’s “Dynamic Vibrato” is one of the best and most popular trem systems of all time – incredibly direct and responsive – something that’s made it a favorite with players like PJ Harvey, John Frusciante, Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain and Todd Rundgren – even Elvis Presley was known to favor a Mustang whenever he’d reach for an electric guitar.

The Mustang’s unique pickup switching system gives eight possible tone choices, with each se1ector switch offering in and out of phase, plus off settings. The combination of pickup settings, Ash body and Rosewood neck all adds up to a 100% rock machine!

As you can see in the photos, the metal parts are all shiny clean and the body condition is excellent, with just a few tiny dings and bumps here and there on the body, (a couple on the top, and some light buckle rash on the back), but the only real wear of note is along the bottom edge, (see pic # 7). There’s some lovely fine checking in the body finish, (too fine for the photos), and in the neck varnish, as shown in pics 3 & 5.

An all original, 1968, 22-fret Mustang, in its original orange-lined Victoria hard shell case, (the case exterior is visible down the right-hand edge of pic # 2), complete with the interior neck-strap, (pic # 4), this is the one guitar your collection needs!
