Rare Gilet archtop with Bartolini pickup
In the realm of the modern archtop guitar, this is probably just about it! You simply will not believe the magnificently lush sound that this hand-built Gilet model produces. There is no model number or serial number, as Gerard Gilet built this guitar for his own personal use during late 2002/early 2003, however he sold it to a friend a couple of years later when he realized he wasn’t finding the time to play it.
Available in just a handful of the most respected guitar stores internationally, Gilet handcrafted guitars can be found in the hands of players such as Garry Beers of INXS, American blues artist Eric Bibb, Dom Turner of the Backsliders and Brendan Gallagher of Karma County.
One of just a very small handful of archtops that Gerard Gilet has ever found time to produce, the guitar features a 16” body with solid flamed European Maple back and sides, a solid Sitka Spruce top and a Maple neck with dual bi-flex truss-rods. The distinctive tailpiece is Rosewood, and the headstock overlay is a beautiful piece of back-sawn Brazilian Rosewood! The body is hand-finished in genuine nitro lacquer for the ultimate in sonic transfer.
Gerard added the floating Bartolini ‘Johnny Smith’ pickup and pickguard when the guitar was passing on to his friend, and as exquisite an acoustic sound as it produces, this guitar absolutely comes alive with the Bartolini. Never has our Vox amp produced such an amazingly rich and detailed sound – like there’s an orchestra hiding in the room somewhere!
This is a guitar that has been built for the ages – an heirloom guitar, which can be passed down through the years. Just owning it will enrich your life, although playing it will elevate you to a level of happiness you may previously have thought unattainable.
There are just light signs of playwear here and there, but the guitar is in overall Excellent+ condition. Needless to say, this incredibly fine instrument ships in its original hard shell case
