#8166 Vox Tornado
Vox V247 Tornado, circa 1966. An all original, Italian-made Vox Tornado – although the coffin-case appears to be from a mid-70s Vox Super Lynx. Lovely three-tone sunburst finish, original Tornado inscribed pickguard, and tone to die for.
The thinline archtop Tornados featured a single, high output neck-mounted pickup, front and rear binding, adjustable bridge, plus tone and volume controls and floating pickguard. You won’t believe the tone from this magnificent 40 year old guitar – strum it once and it rings until next Wednesday – incredible!
There are some expected cracks in t...

#8126 Paramount Conservatory Lap-Steel, 1939
Made by Regal in Chicago. Bakelite knobs, 100% original twin blade pickups, lovely velvet-lined case, even has its original cord and plug. Astonishing condition. Master Aussie blues guy Matt Walker recently plugged this in and had a play, admiring its lovely warm, woody tones. (By the way, the new self-titled Matt Walker & Ashley Davies album is a killer. You’ve probably heard `Technological Advances’ on the radio, but do yourself a favor and buy the album – it’s grouse!*)This top quality model is believed to have been produced for either the Juilliard Academy of Music in New York,...

#8116 Kay Electric Mandolin, mid-60s
A Model 494 Kay electric A-style mandolin from the Kay plant in Chicago, in very good shape. Few scuffs and marks, considering it’s 40 years old, and most of them are in the painted-on “binding”. A single metal-covered pole-less pickup, separate volume and tone controls, (with period cheesy knobs that look like they came off a TV set). These were a model down from the fully professional Model 390, but the savings were in the cosmetics – “painted-on” rear flame and “binding”. The Kay logo appeared only on the pick-guard, so this is obviously a replacement pickguard, in very good condi...

#8111 GTX Bass
Another sad case of it no longer being economically viable to make finely crafted instruments in the USA, these fine basses are no longer in production. Designed alongside Hamer’s top-quality instruments of the early 90s, (the distinctive headstock immediately identifies it as a quality Hamer product), we believe this great, GB44 fullscale bass was crafted at the company’s Chicago plant shortly before the parent company shifted production overseas. If nothing else, this truly awesome full scale bass lives on as a reminder of just how good GTX were while they lasted.
Over-strengt...

#8106 1960s Silvertone
In truly exceptional condition, this mid-60s US made Silvertone seems to be in all original condition, with very little wear. (Can’t remember ever seeing one in such good shape) These were manufactured for Silvertone by Kay Guitars in Chicago, and have become rightly famous for their rock-solid build and the way they stay in tune – not to mention killer sound from the DeArmond single-coil pickup). The timber body is in fabulous shape, as is the hardware and paintwork, (just a few chips – see the front body photo – and the pickup and bridge cover are still showing their original art d...

#8105 1970s Kay Bass
Shortscale Rickenbacker copy from the 1970s. (An internet fact insists that the Kay brand name was owned at this time by now British PM, Tony Blair – different Tony Blair!) What appears to be low-resonance industrial 12-ply is sandwiched in between top and bottom layers of some nicely grained maple(?). Serial numbers in those days were foil stickers on the neck, and this one’s is long gone, so the exact year is unknown, but, given the condition, and in comparing photos, it’s most likely from somewhere around 1973-76. Anyhow, it plays like a dream, with nice low action and a thunk tha...

#8103 Hofner 172, 1962, near mint
Rare, rare, rare. This was a very exciting find – and not only rare, but this Hofner 172 still has its original EVERYTHING, including its white leatherette covering. Twin Hofner pole-adjusted pickups with separate volume controls, rhythm/solo, bass and treble switches, the frets are in great nick, (Brazilian rosewood fretboard), the original tremolo is still intact and works like a dream. In fact, the guitar plays like a dream, (it is a Hofner, after all). The white leatherette has aged to a rich cream color, better matching the tones of the MOTS control panel. You’ll occasionally se...

#8102 12-string Gibson Hummingbird copy
Late sixties/early seventies, made by Ibanez in their Hoshino facility. (Erratic Japanese numbering makes it hard to date these accurately, however the lack of the words, “by Ibanez” on the label indicates that this was made somewhere around 1968/69) This is in stunning condition – has to be seen (and heard) to be believed. The Cimar brand name was used in Europe – in Japan the same guitars sold as Greco, in the UK they were branded as Antoria, and in the US both Univox and Penco put their names on them. The quality instruments that Ibanez were making in the seventies are now attract...

#8101 Univox HR-2 hollowbody electric, 1965
These amazing guitars from the sixties are getting very thin on the ground, as they’re snapped up by people in the know. This Series 1 model is in incredible all original condition – it’s even got its original whammy bar. Stunning dark cherryburst finish, thick white binding front and back, (the front with black pin-striping), original pickguard, dual adjustable Tune-O-Matic style bridge, sealed tuners, nice neck inlays, original knobs. From two metres away it looks like a new guitar! It’s obviously never been played that much, as everything is so spiffy – the binding doesn’t have a ...

#8100 Burns of London “Steer”
As played and endorsed by Billy Bragg, the Steer is rapidly becoming just as keenly sought after as Burns’ famous Bison model, many top players consider the Steer to be a superior instrument to Fender’s Telecaster. These are almost impossible to find in Australia, so this near mint Steer is a real find for the serious player. The meaty split humbucker bridge pickup, with coil-tap, gives you a red hot Tele sound, but way, way better! And being string-through, the sustain is awesome. Burns’ awesome high-power Tri-Sonic neck pickup delivers a Blues/Jazz warmth you just won’t believe. En...

#8098 Vintage Kay Bass
The headstock dates this great bass to probably the late 50s, or maybe very early 60s. In tobacco sunburst, with crisp white binding front and back, it’s not 100% original, but it’s better for it new Volume and Tone knobs, new pickguard, new wiring. The original tuners are in great nick, the neck is straight as a die, the action is good and the pickup sounds as fresh as the day it left the Kay factory. (How cool is that pickup!) A few minor dings and scratches, but overall this is a classic shortscale Kay bass that you’ll absolutely treasure. There’s a new set of strings on it and it...

#8097 Gibson Chet Atkins SST, 1994
Heritage Cherry Sunburst signature model in truly excellent condition. Don’t even keep reading, just grab this one NOW! You know how fabulous these guitars are, and you probably thought you’d never be able to afford one. The steel string version, (SST), of the world famous Gibson Chet Atkins solid body guitars have become legendary for their non-feedback live sound. Exquisitely hand crafted in Gibson’s Nashville plant, this awesome specimen shows some slight play marks on top, (no pickguard on these), while the back is virtually mark-free, (looks almost new). Negligible signs of Gibs...

#8096 1970s Univox Hi-Flier Bass
What a fine assemblage of wood and wire! This great Univox Hi-Flier bass, (Model 1818B - Phase III), dates back to 1976, when the Univox name had been firmly established by the likes of the Doors and Led Zeppelin – here’s your chance to join the legends. (Kurt Cobain was a huge Univox fan) Copied from Mosrite’s famous Ventures models, these were among the last ones made before the lawsuit era kicked in. Two awesome humbuckers, tone and volume controls, 3-way toggle, plus Univox’s great muted, adjustable tailpiece/bridge. Light, loose, funky and thin – exactly what you want in a bass....

#8092 Galveston ""Crystal Clear"" Les Paul style, new
Ever since Dave Grohl started using his clear Dan Armstrong onstage, suddenly everyone wants a Perspex guitar again – and here’s one that you can actually afford. This is a brand new Galveston “Crystal Clear” that we’ve had tweaked a little.Straight out of the box, these can sound a tad ordinary, so we handed this’n over to one of Australia’s top luthiers and he’s worked wonders on it – Mr Grohl himself would be more than happy to take to the stage with this axe. The frets have all been hand-trimmed and set, as well as the intonation, plus minor adjustment of the nut – this awesome l...

#8090 Dean Palomino hollowbody, natural
Where to start? You know the stunning quality that Dean is world famous for, but this is one to knock you right off your feet. It’s an almost new, display model Palomino, in natural finish, (straight out of an LA music store). Our guitar guy loves this one – he reckons it plays itself. Three(!) P90 pickups, with 5-way selector, Grover Roto-Matic tuners, great Dean headstock, stunning MOP inlays, and a great trapeze tail-piece make this one of the bargain buys of the decade. Cool, all chrome hardware and fabulous, solid build quality – the photos don’t come anywhere near showing just ...

Customer Feedback
I had tried everywhere to find a vintage National dobro that I could afford - thanks for coming through for me. At more than 2 grand less than I was getting quoted everywhere else, I've got a really awesome vintage instrument that can be handed down to my son. And I've got enough change left over that you can be sure I'll be back for another "treat" for myself soon.
