All of our Elvish Robots custom builds are complete one-offs, and this is no exception, finished here in what we’re calling a lightly relic’d ‘Bayou Moss’. From before we’d even shaped the first piece of timber, the Bayou Moss was going to be 100% about looks, playability and pure vintage Telecaster tone. We believe we’ve nailed it rather well.
Moments of spare time
Our custom builds happen in scrap moments of spare time, so they’re destined to only appear at somewhat random intervals. (That said, the next couple – a sixties, double-bound Tele Custom and a very trippy Strat – are both looking pretty special)
Premium components
Despite different paintwork and layouts, one thing is constant across all our builds – absolutely nothing but premium components! Every guitar is built to the same high standards as the famous California and Nashville custom shops. And, with every one, we keep the price down as low as we possibly can.
Built to age
So, what do we have here? Let’s start with the timbers: solid Ash body; hand-carved roasted Maple neck, with our lovingly hand-carved ‘Deco Lady’ headstock; slab Rosewood board, with a hand-cut bone nut and vintage-style ‘Fretless Wonder’ frets. The Bayou Moss finish features our exclusive “part relic” treatment, designed to wear naturally in some areas, while retaining diamond-hard patches elsewhere. In other words, this guitar is built to age beautifully!
Paul Simon
Note the wiring channel showing under our clear scratchplate. We could have gone with boring old black or white plastic, but we decided it would be a shame to hide any of the Bayou Moss finish. Also, with the wiring channel exposed, it lends the guitar a touch of Paul Simon’s famous unfinished Strat look.
Fifties vintage spec'd
Electronically, you’ve got an absolutely devasting set of custom wound Lindy Fralin high output ‘Vintage Tele’ pickups; cloth wiring; and professional Neutrik locking jack, (pic # 7). Metal parts are a deluxe Wilkinson compensated black Tele bridge, with solid brass saddles. The solid stamped steel bridge plate is fifties vintage spec’d for authentic thru-body stringing, but can also be top strung, if that’s what rocks your boat. Tuners are locking Gotohs, in smoked chrome.

A vintage-style tweed hard case caps Elvish Robots # 12 off perfectly, as does the stamp of approval from our favorite punk cowgirl, Jenny Don’t, shown in pic # 7, taking the guitar for a test-drive at Shotkickers in Melbourne, last time she was out in Australia with her band, the Spurs.
