Description

After companies such as Charvel, Ibanez, Schecter, Kramer, Jackson and others began producing their so-called Superstrats in the early eighties, the Prodigy was perhaps Fender’s best ever response, a guitar that covers vast musical ground with ease.

Fully hand cut and shaped

Commencing with one of Fender’s historic tone woods, these great first year Prodigys have a solid Poplar body, with a vintage-style tremolo bridge, (which Fender subsequently changed to a Floyd Rose), and a fantastic-playing one-piece Maple neck/fingerboard. The Poplar body makes these awesomely light axes, with every one – bodies and necks – fully hand cut and shaped.

Pink Floyd to Muddy Waters

The first year Prodigy is an incredibly versatile guitar, something that was lost when the specifications were altered in early ’92, effectively making them a one-trick pony – shredders. Check out our soundfile and hear just some of the dynamite sounds that this guitar is capable of. Twenty-five years of ageing has really opened up the Poplar’s natural tone, allowing you to effortlessly slip from Pink Floyd to Muddy Waters, Hank Williams to Green Day, Sonic Youth to Funkadelic – it’s all just a drive in the country for the Prodigy.

Crimson Red Metallic

This highly desirable first year model is finished in Crimson Red Metallic, and appears to be the only example currently for sale anywhere in the world. (The Prodigy’s other limited color options were Black, Arctic White and Lake Placid Blue)

Listen to our soundfile

Alongside a hardcore group of idiots who knock it for not sounding exactly the same as a Strat(!), there’s a growing number of players who hail the Prodigy as the best Stratocaster-style guitar that Fender ever made. Again, listen to our soundfile and you may very likely come to a similar conclusion. If you have ever checked out other Superstrats – such as the Kramer Baretta or a Jackson Soloist – and found them uninspiring, then the Prodigy is probably exactly what you were looking for.

Exceedingly fine condition

Complete with its original Fender hard shell case, the guitar is in exceedingly fine condition – at least Excellent++ - with barely a mark on it, other than some light buckle-rash on the rear coverplate. The frets are perfect, the action is ridiculously low and fast, the electrics are perfect, etc, etc, etc. And as with all Just Guitars instruments, FREE COURIER DELIVERY is included to any address in Australia. ($100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the US, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries. International freight added at checkout)
