Back in 1994, to mark its fortieth anniversary, Fender produced a limited run of 1,954 1954-spec’d Stratocasters, each guitar individually numbered, in its special 40th Anniversary case, and complete with a raft of reproduction 1954 memorabilia. Our guitar here is # 1,606 of those 1,954.
1954 design
Leo Fender’s enduring 1954 design has seen several anniversary models issued over the years, however you’d be hard-pressed to find one so authentically first year as this. From its vintage-style Kluson tuners to the select Ash body with semi-transparent two-tone Sunburst finish, this is a Strat that shouts VINTAGE. (And, being 28 years old now, the guitar is actually vintage itself!)
Vintage features
The list of vintage features includes the solid one-piece Maple neck/board, (with historically accurate soft-V profile); vintage-style frets; vintage-style tremolo system; vintage-style single-ply scratchplate; vintage-style 3-way selector switch; and Custom Shop ’54 Vintage pickups.
Engraved plaque
The production number is featured on the headstock; the single-ply backplate features a subtle 1954 stamping; and there’s a special 40th Anniversary neckplate, which is matched by an engraved plaque on the case, (see pic # 6).
Case candy
The guitar featured on p. 66 of Ray Minhinnett & Bob Young’s The Story Of The Fender Stratocaster includes a glimpse of the incredible case candy that was included with the 40th Anniversary model, but we would really prefer that you be just as amazed as we were when we discovered it all, so we have chosen not to included pictures. The original deluxe Fender hard case does contain all the standard case candy – cable, strap, polishing cloth, paperwork, etc.
Condition
Condition is Excellent+, with almost no sign of wear or playwear at all. Some light nitro finish checking has begun to develop, further enhancing the guitar's vintage appearance and desirability.
