You've got yer Peter Frampton 'Black Beauty' Les Paul Custom; you've got yer white model, as played by Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols; and then there's 'Lucy', the Clapton/Harrison Wine Red Custom. The Les Paul Custom has always attracted the big names, but Wine Red was never produced in anything like the numbers of its siblings, making it often difficult to track down. Serious tone territory
The weight has always been a big part of the Les Paul Custom - the heaviest on record supposedly over 14lb! This is from the now much sought after 2006 run, where there was no weight relief, and the guitars all came in around the 10lb - 10lb 4oz range. But whatever it reads on the scales, once you get up over about 8½lb, you're headed into serious tone territory. Every back shaped from a solid Mahogany slab, each carved top from prime solid Maple - the time-honoured tone combination benefiting from every extra ounce: 14 seconds of natural acoustic sustain here!
490R & 490T
Mahogany neck, Ebony fingerboard with MOP block inlays, 490R & 490T Custom Shop humbuckers, gold hardware, multi-ply binding, black speed knobs, plus a marginally slimmer neck profile than usual - not Rickenbacker thin, nor today's standard modern-C - let's call it a skinny modern-C.
Condition
Complete with its original Gibson Custom hard shell case and case candy, including signed Certificate of Authenticity, the guitar is in Excellent+ condition, showing only light playwear and minimal wear on the gold body parts. Everything works as it should, those Custom Shop pickups snarl and bite, and we'll include a nice Jodi Head strap to go with the Wine Red finish.
