In production from 2000 - 2009, the Angus Young signature model SG straight away attracted reviews hailing it as possibly Gibson’s best ever SG. We see nothing here to indicate otherwise!
Driving power
Starting out with a magnificent slab of hand-selected Mahogany for the body, Gibson’s luthiers then chose the perfect slice of Mahogany for the neck, and proceeded from there to create the ultimate raw energy rock machine. A ’57 Classic humbucker in the neck position and the exclusive Angus Signature humbucker at the bridge combine with the premium timbers to deliver all the crunch, all the driving power and fat, meaty attack that Angus and AC/DC are famous for, the world over.
Vintage from across the room!
Finished in a darker Cherry than usual – similar to a vintage Dark Wine Red – intimating a tad more R&R menace than most others, the knobs, the scratchplate, the Lyre Vibrola and the twin humbuckers all contrast perfectly against the finish. Likewise, the pearloid inlays stand out beautifully against the incredibly dark, hand-selected Rosewood board. Vintage ‘Green Key’ tuners, ABR wire bridge, aged neck binding – this is a guitar that radiates vintage from across the room!
Angus riffage
As noted above, the sound is so spot-on vintage SG it’s spooky. A large part of this must surely be attributable to the Mahogany body – no lightweight axe this, we’re talking a seriously hefty SG, at 8lb 14½ oz / 4.04kg!! You’ll go a long way to find another SG tipping the scales like that. A particularly dense slice of Mahogany, that translates to ringing, solid SG/Angus riffage.
