The previous owner of this guitar, (let’s, for the sake of politeness, call him Dumbarse American Person), decided the exposed sides of the Ebony fingerboard clashed with the paintwork of the neck, so he parked himself at the kitchen table with a can of Household White and painted the Ebony over to match the neck. (Please, don’t ever do this to a guitar!)
Limited edition SG Special
Anyway, our bright spark eventually trades it for something else he can do paint-by-numbers with and a dealer friend of ours picks it up cheap at a local swap meet. Our friend managed to remove most of the paint, before hitting a busy spell, when he gave up on it. We took it off his hands and without investing too much time & effort on it, have tidied the paintwork up as best we can, (see pic # 7), and now present it here as an outrageously fine limited edition SG Special, at a ridiculously low Just Guitars price, thanks to the efforts of Mr Household White.
A mean set of vintage PAF-style humbuckers
This rare SG model was exclusive to the US market, so may well be the sole example in Australia. Only available during 1997, the limited edition white finish, matching white pearl scratchplate, (and truss-rod cover), and all gold hardware is incredibly striking. This high-end model is powered by a mean set of vintage PAF-style humbuckers that can blast you to balls-to-the-wall in a nanosecond flat! Clapton/Cream, Hendrix, blues, blues-rock, hell, it even pretties up rather nicely, too – have a listen to our soundfile, this is one of those great all-rounders that top players are always looking out for.
That raw, Gibson humbucker snarl
Gibson cost-cutting over the past few years has seen that the SG Special is no longer built with an Ebony board, so if you want that traditional hard attack off the board, if you want that raw, Gibson humbucker snarl, if you want to rock out like some of the great SG Special players, (Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi, Joe Bonamassa, Carlos Santana, You Am I’s Davey Lane), then grab this axe!
One hell of a cool package!
Mahogany body; Mahogany neck; Ebony board, with pearl dot inlays; medium-jumbo frets, (in perfect, almost untouched condition); vintage-style, tulip-button Kluson Deluxe tuners; all gold hardware, (note the gold pickup pole-pieces!); historically correct ABR-1 tune-o-matic wire bridge; top-hat control knobs; limited edition headstock decal, (pics 5 & 7)… All original – with the possible exception of the nut – this is one hell of a cool package!
Sexy music-making machine
The cool factor kicks up even more with some highly desirable lacquer checking, (pics 4 & 6). The super-cool aged Cream finish, the pearl scratchplate & truss-rod cover, the gold hardware and the naturally sexy SG shape… it all adds up to a very sexy music-making machine.
