Description

One of the true legends of the electric guitar – ever since guesting on his first recording session at age 16, (with the Mamas and the Papas) – Lee Ritenour has gone on to play in excess of 3000 sessions, making him one of the most recorded artists on earth. Having played with a sizeable portion of the world’s top musicians – from Pink Floyd to Natalie Cole, Art Garfunkel to Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin to Dizzy Gillespie – Ritenour acquired the sobriquet “Captain Fingers” early on in his career, for his smooth and dexterous playing, plus an innate ability to deliver exactly what the artist or producer requires. (Whether they know it or not!)

Among the first

Launched in early 1981, and produced in only limited numbers across the next six years, Ibanez’s LR10 Lee Ritenour signature model was an elite tribute to this great player. Our incredible machine here was built in December of 1980, ahead of the 1981 launch, and features the lowest serial number that we have been able to verify – if not the very first, then certainly among the first handful completed.

Foam filled

The LR10 is doubly revered in the thinline guitar world: firstly, (obviously), for the Lee Ritenour connection; secondly, the bodies were all foam filled, to eliminate feedback – an important consideration given Ritenour’s extensive jazz work.

Nitro

The LR10 features an all Maple body, with the gorgeous flamed front and back finished in Antique Violin nitro. The neck construction is 3-piece Mahogany/Maple/Mahogany. Lastly on the timber front, a bound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, (lovely, tight grain!), featuring abalone dot inlays.

‘Lee Ritenour Special’ humbuckers

Up on the headstock, a mother-of-pearl Ibanez logo, and the smooth VelveTune tuners. Body appointments consist of a tune-o-matic bridge, Gibraltar ‘Quick Change II’ tailpiece, a pair of matched ‘Lee Ritenour Special’ humbuckers, with a 3-way selector switch and separate volume & tone controls, the knobs featuring sure-touch rubberized grips. There’s a 5-ply pick guard, and black plastic f-hole fillers hide the foam filling from view.

Bone nut

These guitars originally came with brass nuts, though most – including this – have been changed over the years. The bone nut here obviously dates back a long time, so was possibly installed when the guitar was still new. Other than the nut, the guitar is completely stock.

Free courier delivery

In professionally well played condition, this is a guitar to enjoy, to record with, to play live with, to treasure. In its original Ibanez hard shell case, FREE COURIER DELIVERY is included to any address in Australia. (Due to the Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, the guitar cannot be shipped outside Australia)
