Description

Conceived as the future of the acoustic guitar, in a limited edition run of one hundred instruments, available only as custom orders by Martin dealers and stores, industry guesstimation has it that the end total was somewhere in the vicinity of just 38 instruments. Although tagged as a D-14 by the company, the DCRNS TransAction is actually based on the legendary D-28, with the 14 here representing the number of frets to the body. And while Martin have been building 14-fret dreadnoughts since the 1930s, they are only available as special orders via the Martin Custom Shop.

TransAction neck adjustment system

The multi-patented TransAction neck adjustment system that Ned Steinberger brought to the project, (along with his Auto-Trim locking tuners), allows for instant neck relief for changed weather or stage conditions, along with the ability to raise the action for easier slide playing – all without the need to remove or slack off the strings. The adjustment wheel is easily accessible through the soundhole – see pic # 6. Intonation is also fully adjustable via Allen key, also through the soundhole.

That famous Martin acoustic tone

Coming up on its twentieth year, (built during 2002), the timbers have really begun to sonically open up. The solid Sitka Spruce top, solid Indian Rosewood back & sides, (and headstock face), and the solid one-piece Mahogany neck, (satin finished for fast playing), all combine to deliver that famous Martin acoustic tone, with the dread-sized body and Martin’s hybrid scalloped X-bracing adding the full-body acoustic punch that you’re after.

Fishman Prefix stereo blender system

And that’s all before you plug in! The Fishman Prefix stereo blender system is one of the most versatile and adjustable on-board pre-amps available for high-end acoustic guitars. Play with pure onboard mic’d output, pure onboard piezo output, or use the blend control for your own mix of the two. The pre-amp is also switchable between stereo and regular mono output.

Shimmering chord shapes

The super-flat 16” radius fingerboard is just as suited to easy picking, fancy fingerplay, and lazy weekend strumming out on the verandah, all with that famous Martin string-to-string definition and clarity, plus shimmering chord shapes that hang in the air, begging you to keep on playing.

Condition

The guitar is in Excellent+ condition, with just some slight playwear on the scratchplate almost the only indication of the twenty years that have passed since it left the Martin facility in Pennsylvania, where the interior label was signed by both Ned Steinberger and Chris Martin IV, (see pic # 5).
