Since Maton ended production of electric guitars a few years back, prices have been steadily creeping upwards. Almost every Maton electric has become extremely desirable and sought after, and the more rare the model, the higher the prices keep climbing. This fabulous Mastersound MS500 is rare on two counts; the White/Black finish, and the 21-fret/24½” scale. Most of the Mastersound reissues were listed as being 22-fret/24¾”, making this Strat or Tele scale, rather than Les Paul.
A real rarity
You can find black MS500s, black/black, black/white, sunburst, cherry, even blue, but not a lot in white/black, so this 1998/99 Adam Cole designed model – same as that of the Distillers’ Brody Dalle, (shown in pic # 1) – is a real rarity. And, as we noted at the front, this is currently the only one listed for sale, anywhere in the world.
Pure vintage tone
Queensland Silver Silkwood body, Queensland Maple neck, Indian Rosewood fingerboard, (12” radius), and powered by a killer set of Maton Vintage pickups – a MVHB at the bridge, and MVSC single coil in the neck position. Specially wound for pure vintage tone, you also have the bonus of coil tap on the humbucker, which gets you into real fifties Telecaster territory. This first version also features the Kluson-style green keystone tuners, further enhancing the vintage look and appeal.
Incredible condition
The guitar is in incredible condition, with very little evidence of having been played for over twenty-five years. Most playwear is confined to the scratchplate/pickups area, while the neck, fingerboard and frets all look almost brand new! As with many of these, there is the common, though slight, crack in the scratchplate, around the selector switch, though we couldn’t get it to show up in the photos.
