Description

DAVID Grissom’s unique playing style has been described as Texas Blues meets Americana, in the heart of modern Nashville. He can stretch those notes of longing heartache out into next week, then turn right around and chicken-pick with the best of them. He’s played with the Texas Tornados, Buddy Guy, John Mayall, John Mellencamp, Ringo Starr, the Allman Brothers, Joe Ely, Eliza Gilkyson, Lee Ann Womack, Dixie Chicks, Allison Moorer, Chris Isaak, Carl Perkins, Ian Matthews… oh, and Bob Dylan.

McCarty origins

Grissom first entered the world of Paul Reed Smith via a 24-fret Standard, before submitting an early nineties custom order, which would eventually make it into the PRS model range as the company’s famous nineties workhorse, the McCarty.

Tone and playability

In his detailed instructions, Grissom said he was after more bottom end, with tone like that of Gibson’s legendary PAF humbuckers, Kluson-style tuners, extra thickness to the Mahogany body, a longer neck heel… all features that Grissom and Paul Reed Smith himself knew would provide both the required tone and the playability demanded by a topflight player.

David Grissom Tremolo

Once the McCarty model was out in the world, more refinements of that model went into creating the David Grissom Tremolo – the DGT: Grissom’s custom neck profile; taller frets; specially voiced pickups; and Grissom’s custom wiring setup. It all goes towards making the DGT one of the most popular models in the entire Paul Reed Smith range.

PRS Experience show

The voicing of the DGT pickups was designed to match the pickups in a Gibson ES-335 that Grissom owned. His custom wiring layout consists of two volume controls, plus a special push-pull tone control/coil-split. Here he is laying down a great blues solo, showing exactly what his namesake model is capable of, recorded at the in-house PRS Experience show, back in 2013 – CLICK HERE. Condition

Despite having seen regular use by one of Australia’s best known guitarists, our DGT is in Excellent+ condition all over, other than an area of surface buckle-rash on the back, which is largely confined to the plastic tremolo coverplate – we have exaggerated the brightness in a section of pic # 7 to highlight this. A brand new replacement coverplate is included with the guitar, which will bring the overall rating of the guitar very close to Near Mint.

Factory upgrade

Ice Blue Metallic finish, the optional factory upgrade of brownstone bird inlays, and complete with its original PRS hard shell case, there’s no need for you to fork out over five grand for a premium DGT – you can grab this one at just $3800 and be the envy of every guitar kid on the block!
