Description

There is a famous quote attributed to senior Fender management, from the day the first shipment of samples arrived from the company’s new Japanese production facility, back in the mid-eighties: “When we saw the quality, we could have cried!”

Superb quality

As has been well documented, by the late sixties into the early seventies, several of the big US guitar manufacturers had really dropped the ball, with new managements cutting costs in every direction, allowing Japanese companies to begin crafting superb quality copies to meet the demand for instruments as good – or better – than what the US had produced in its guitar glory days of the fifties and early sixties. Fender eventually stepped in and went about establishing their own line of Japanese production, leading to the “We could have cried” quote. The quality, in sharp contrast to what was coming out of California at the time, really was that good!

1962

From 1975 to 1986 there were no Jaguars built in the US. The brilliant quality Japanese models ran from 1986 to 1999, (this model, 1999, was one of the last), as an extremely faithful recreation of the legendary 1962 release, with the original dot marker inlays, plethora of control knobs & switches, even the spring-loaded string mute.

More control

Often assumed to have the same proportions as the similar looking Jazzmaster, the Jaguar is actually an easier-playing guitar, with a shorter, more Gibson-like 24” scale length – easier and faster playing. Shorter scale, plus more control over your sound: the same Jazzmaster rhythm circuit, but the Jag boasts added “lead circuit” switches, (individual pickup selection and a mid-tone filter).

Mastery bridge

Modelled directly on the 1962 original, the spec fest includes a Rosewood fingerboard on a vintage tint Maple neck, with a nice profile somewhere between a modern C and a D. (A flattened C?); vintage Kluson-style nickel tuners; (all chrome elsewhere); matching painted headstock; vintage-style floating tremolo; 3-ply Mint scratchplate. As we noted at the front, the guitar comes with the playing stability of a bonus Mastery bridge – hands down the best innovation in modern offset guitars! (The original Fender bridge is included in the case)

Beach Boys

The Beach Boys’ Carl Wilson was one of the earliest Jaguar adopters, then in later years players such Thurston Moore, Stone Gossard and Brian Molko wielded them front-of-stage, taking full advantage of the awesome versatility. Grab this killer Jag and get your name on the list.

Amazing condition

Complete with deluxe Fender hard case, this 23 year old guitar has obviously been played, though other than a couple of dings and the bare timber spot on the back, elsewhere it’s in amazing condition, with zero fingerboard wear and the frets still almost brand new.
