This highly coveted American Standard Strat was out the door again less than 24 hours after we first got it in. If you attended any gigs or festivals during March this year, you may have seen it in person, as we had it out on loan for two weeks with one of the many international touring acts that helped make the summer of 2023 so musically memorable. The feedback we got back via the tour manager was, “Thank Just Guitars so much! That was a really nice Strat!”
Immaculate condition
We’re not sure how much play time it got, as it’s still in the same immaculate condition as when it went out. In fact, the guitar has seen such very little playtime in its lifetime that it still had its original factory set of Fender Bullet strings on when we got it in!
Pickups
How anyone could have resisted playing these Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups is beyond us. In combination with what seems to be an accidental recreation of the historic faded Sunburst finish, this thing radiates a killer fifties vibe the second you plug in. Many pro players and reviewers have said that the Custom Shop’s Fat 50s are the best pickups Fender have ever made…
Factory calibrated, with staggered Alnico V magnets, pole pieces with rounded edges, Formvar wire, fibre bobbins, aged covers, and the middle pickup with reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4, these things absolutely sing. Fabulous bottom end, with no harsh midrange, and the bell-like upper registry Stratocaster tone that people can spend a lifetime – and many thousands of dollars – chasing.
