First quality
Gibson’s own production code marks this Memphis Custom Shop product as “first quality”, (ESDPVSNH1 = Dot, Plain top, Vintage Sunburst, Nickel Hardware, 1 = first quality). All guitars, from all the big names, have periods where the build quality seems to stand out from the surrounding years. 2005 to 2008 are acknowledged as being excellent years for the ES-335, and before you even pick this one up, it already looks like there’s something special going on.
Absolutely incredible
Cloned from the 1957 originals, the ES-335’s ’57 Classic humbuckers deliver all the bottom end, the warm mids and the biting top end that you’d be expecting if the guitar had been made back in 1960. Speaking of, the 1960 “slim taper” neck is absolutely incredible! A soft C-profile up around the nut, then tapering off to a wide, flat D. 42.7mmm nut width, (1¹¹/16"); 52.7mm at the 12th fret; and a 12th fret depth of just 24.6mm. These are standard specs, but somehow this neck feels flatter, wider and more comfortable than it should!

The Maple body, finished in Vintage Sunburst nitro, is in impeccable condition. No edge or binding dings, no strap marks, negligible playwear on the scratchplate, perfect frets… You could hang this next to a brand new model and be hard pushed to tell the difference.
