Lovingly assembled between early December of 2004 and the first week of 2005, this is an absolutely stunning ES-335. For twenty years, Japanese distributor Yamano enjoyed an unparalleled “first choice” relationship with Gibson, that allowed them to hand select the very best production models. Over the years, these Yamano guitars became highly prized in Japan, and, as their reputation spread further afield, they are now highly sought across the western world as well.
More and more desirable
Everything had to be just right with these guitars: the timber quality, the build quality, the tone, the resonance, the sustain… everything. There were reports at the beginning of the relationship of Yamano executives travelling to the US and oohing and aahing over the splendid instruments they were about to take home with them. So exacting were the Yamano people that it might only be six or eight guitars! Since the end of the Gibson-Yamano arrangement in 2006, these select guitars have become more and more desirable on the vintage market.
Warmth and class
In Iced Tea Burst, and with a lovely flat D-profile neck, 12” radius Rosewood fingerboard, block inlays and Custom Shop Burstbucker pickups, this is a Larry Carlton ES-335 without the extra Larry Carlton dollars. Designated a plain top, there is very subtle graining in the Maple top, slightly more on the back. The magnificently shaded Iced Tea Burst finish was obviously the highlight of their day for someone in the Gibson paint shop, and retains all of its original warmth and class.
