Almost identical to their ‘Style Leader’/Jimmy Reed model, except with only the one scratchplate, the Value Leader remains one of the alltime classic Kay models. Fully hand built by union labor in Chicago, the Value Leader was in production from 1960 to 1965, with our model here probably from either the first or second year of production.
Very cool, celebrity-owned
We heard about this guitar just a day or two after it was recently traded with one of our top US dealers, by Chris Mansfield of Fences, at which point we pounced on it, now providing one lucky Australian musician the chance to get their hands on a very cool, celebrity-owned axe.
Eminently playable
With an all Maple body and neck, this two pickup version of the Value Leader, (model K1962), is eminently playable, with nice, medium-low action, clean electrics, no dead or buzzing frets, and with its hollowbody construction, at just 5lb / 2.25kg, is light enough to comfortably play your entire gig with.
Professionally serviced and maintained
Professionally serviced and maintained, your Value Leader is ready to plug in and play – try it out on a couple of Fences numbers, maybe ‘Songs About Angels’ or ‘Dusty Beds’…
Great versatility
The Waverly-style strip tuners are recent, and bar a couple of non-original scratchplate screws, everything else appears to be all original. Have a listen to our soundfile and hear the great versatility of this awesome vintage guitar.
