Welcoming mid-range warmth
Longterm followers of Just Guitars may be aware of our soft spot for the all-Mahogany Martins. There’s a really welcoming mid-range warmth to them, which few other guitars have. We grab any of them that we can find at a reasonable price.
Mid-1930s
Bigger than a parlor, smaller than a dread, the 000-15 was based on the original 0-15 model from the mid-1930s, and enjoyed a ten year production run, from 1999 – 2009, replaced the following year by the cheaper, slightly modified 15M model.
Incredibly player friendly
As the interior label states, (see pic # 4), the 000-15 is a 14-fret Auditorium model. (Technically 14/20 fret, with 14 frets to the body) Its body depth of 3¼” at that 14th fret / 4” at the waist, plus a modern-C profile neck, make it an incredibly player friendly guitar.
Solid Honduran Mahogany
Construction is all solid Honduran Mahogany; front, back, sides and neck. The fingerboard is East Indian Rosewood, with matching headstock overlay, topped with the gold foil Martin logo. The bridge is also East Indian Rosewood. Beautifully set off against the Mahogany top are the red tortoise scratchplate and the gold & black soundhole rosette.
Resonance and sustain
Many players say a good hog takes ten years for the timbers to fully open up, then every subsequent year is an improvement on the one before. Well… consider the timbers here fully opened up, and settle in to enjoy the incredible resonance and sustain. That amazing natural tone, coupled with Martin’s typically detailed string-to-string definition puts this guitar into the real heirloom category. Try it in DADGAD tuning and blow yourself away!
Nitro finish
An extremly cool low sheen nitro finish gives the guitar the look of an instrument from the 1800s. (H8ful Eight, anyone?) We’ve not sure if it was maybe a custom order, but it's fantastic, and we've never seen a modern Martin quite like it!
