Since making its debut in 1987, under Music Man's new Ernie Ball ownership, the StingRay 5 has built a rock solid reputation as one of the world's most desirable basses. Bass great, Tony Levin, has talked of battling to find a 5-string that had the articulate bottom end he desired. "When Music Man came out with the StingRay 5, they sent me one to try out. I was skeptical at first, but lo and behold the E string had the punch I wanted. I could play blues in E on the five-string and still feel very good about the way it sounded. I still use that first StingRay 5."
Powerful low end
Truly deep and powerful low end, with no loss across the other side of the board, the active bass, midrange, treble and volume controls, plus 3-band active EQ, deliver a punch that puts the StingRay right at the pointy end of the elite bass club.
Nothing else you need
Solid Ash body, select Maple neck, Music Man bass humbucker with genuine Alnico pole pieces, hardened steel bridge plate with stainless steel saddles, fully shielded control cavities... there's absolutely nothing else you need!
Deep Candy Red
The body is finished in a deep Candy Red, (not to be confused with Fender's more metallic Candy Apple Red), while the fantastic feeling neck features Music Man's own hand-rubbed gunstock oil and wax blend. This is a neck you'll want to keep playing long after the crowd has gone home.
Pro played
Approaching its third decade since being completed at the Ernie Ball / Music Man facility in San Luis Obispo, California, the bass has been pro played, yet is still in great shape. Some playwear on the back, a decent bit on the scratchplate, but the frets and neck are absolutely perfect. The very lower point of the scratchplate is MIA.
