Ovation's Legend series genuinely deserve their name. As one of the world’s very finest acoustic-electric guitars, the 1867 Legend is played and revered by many of the biggest names in the business. Favored by artists as diverse as Robert Fripp, (of King Crimson), Joan Armatrading and Arty White of Alicia Keys’ band. Here’s a LINK to a short documentary piece on Robert Fripp, which features his 1867 Legend.
Top-class appointments
The brilliant Cherryburst finish makes for one of the most striking instruments you’ll ever see, and with top-class appointments all the way, the Legend is one of those guitars that even name players aspire to: a premium AA-grade solid Sitka Spruce top; Walnut bridge with a compensated Tusq saddle; stunning 5-piece Mahogany & Maple neck, (25-¼” scale); dark Rosewood board, with Ivory binding and inlaid Pearl diamond and dot markers; Tusq nut; Schaller tuners; and oak-leaf sound-hole rosette of inlaid MOP. This is a seriously well-designed and beautifully crafted instrument.
Electronics
The guitar’s electronics are an Ovation Thinline peizo under-saddle pickup, featuring individual pickup modules for each string, delivering unparalleled transient accuracy. The pre-amp is the award-winning, super-quiet Ovation OP-24, with separate Bass, Mid, Treble and Volume controls, (plus battery test and power indicator LED). The OP-24 features six discrete amplifier circuits, with a full 12db cut/boost on each frequency control.
Bright and alive
Fully hand built in the USA, the 1867 Legend has great acoustic sustain and projection, but is an instrument that really comes alive when plugged in. There’s a bright and alive attack off the Rosewood board, providing incredible detail in every note, allowing the guitar to encompass everything from country to blues, jazz to rock with absolute ease and style.
Takes your breath away
With its super-shallow bowl, the Legend hugs your body for effortless playing, and will make a superb addition to your live arsenal or studio collection. We mentioned above that the dark Cherryburst finish is absolutely stunning, but we really must mention it again. It’s so vibrant that it’s almost impossible to get a set of photos that adequately captures the beauty of the ‘Burst – it almost takes your breath away when you open the case!
Save over $1800
Prior to being discontinued in 2004, the last Australian list price for the 1867 Legend was $3300, so this is your chance to save over $1800 on a guitar that’s in such nice condition it will almost pass for new. (About the only sign of any wear at all is some very minor finish crazing, alongside the neck on the low-E string side of the body) Grab this beauty before it’s gone…
