SUPER RARE Fernandes Zo-3 mini-collection

Description

Fernandes have been producing various Zo-3* models since 1993, with the original concept being a practise guitar – hence the built-in speaker & 5 watt amp. And while you could probably get away busking with the guitars unplugged, the sound is pretty thin. However, plug in and you’ve got a surprisingly cool sounding electric axe, very much in the Les Paul vein. (Or mic the speaker for Dave Navarro’s particularly cheap and nasty dirty tone!)

Collector series

While Zo-3 models do come in regular plain colors, the limited edition collector series often feature famous designers and artists, classic art and iconic album covers, plus myriad Japanese “fad art”. Some of the plain models are sold in the US as the Nomad travel guitar, though there are slight differences from the Japanese Zo-3. Also sold outside Japan for a short time were US and UK flag versions.

Incredibly rare

From a private Brisbane collection of 22(!) Zo-3 models, our consignment customer anguished for weeks over which ones to send down to us when relocating to an apartment. Almost all of the 22 are incredibly rare, and the end selection was made by pulling names out of a hat. (The only one of the 22 not up for consideration was an original, mega-rare Led Zeppelin III-based design)

2003

The Yoda Zo and Hello Kitty were both 2003 limited editions, and while we haven’t been able to find a release date for the Jamaican Beat model, our consignment customer believes it was also around the same time.

Condition

The guitars have been played, and show the occasional tiny dinglet here and there, and one or two spots of touch-up paint, (see pic # 7 on the Jamaican Beat), but condition overall is Excellent- with the frets all perfect, the electrics all perfect, and the nicely grained Maple necks and premium Rosewood fingerboards are hallmark Fernandes. All three guitars play and sound great!

Massively popular

Many of the Zo-3 designs are produced in extremely small numbers – in fact this is the only one of this particular Hello Kitty version we’ve ever seen! And Hello Kitty guitars – including Fender’s Squire models – have become massively popular over the last few months, so don’t let this one escape.

Detailed photos

See the individual listings for detailed photos and soundfiles of each guitar. The last section of the Yoda Zo soundfile features the built-in speaker.
