"The tone and feel of a pre-war instrument!" proclaimed the release material for the AJ-500, and they weren't overselling at all - these are some of the best recreations of guitars of a bygone era, when quality and tone took biggest claim over modern priorities such as "price point" and faked ageing.
The AJ series were Acoustic Jumbo dreads, built the old-fashioned way, with genuine vintage appointments, including something that has now come around again over the last few years, the thirties-style V-neck. Our limited edition AJ-500 RC NS, (Rosewood/Cedar, Natural Satin finish), features all solid Rosewood back & sides, solid Cedar top, Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard and abalone star inlays, Rosewood bridge, bone nut, (1¾"), bone saddle, mother-of-pearl headstock inlays, gold Grover 'Sta-Tite' tuners... and more.
In keeping with the 1931 Epiphone model it replicates, the neck-to-body arrangement features a traditional hot hide glue attached dovetail joint. Nothing was spared in getting these guitars exactly right. Again, from the release material, these truly are "instruments of unsurpassed value, playability and tone." It's little surprise that Guitar Player magazine awarded the AJ-500 its prized Editor's Pick.
As shown in pic # 7, the guitar comes with a free-standing Fishman soundhole pickup. The guitar was never drilled for the pickup - the lead just taken back out of the soundhole. The Fishman pickup will come with the guitar regardless, but we can also supply and install our preferred acoustic pickup, a top-of-the-range LR Baggs M1-A active sound-hole pickup, at our cost, of only $265. We firmly believe the M1-A is the best and most accurate sounding acoustic pickup on the market.
