The reassessed Telecaster that appeared in 1982 was like a beacon in the dark to the multitude of players that had been mourning the quality of American guitar building of the previous decade and a half. Finally, here was something to be proud of again! And, really, what other color would you want it in than Blonde. Classic. Blonde. Tele.
Ivory Blonde
Our example here is actually finished in the quite rare Ivory Blonde, only available for a twelve month period across 1983/84. Now aged to a delicious Buttermilk, this is about as nice a Tele as a person could wish for! Perfect color, just enough wear to show it’s the real deal, plus that vintage Telecaster sound on which songs, albums and, indeed, legends have been built.
Condition
In overall Excellent condition, there’s no fret wear, no neck wear and no structural or electronic issues whatsoever. A few marks and dings, which you can see in the photos, some buckle rash on the back, but really, none of it matters – this is a guitar you can plug in and play the minute you open up the case. The flatter, more player-friendly, 12”-radiused fretboard is an absolute delight, so you’ll be playing for hours and hours and hours…
Design
The first proper overhaul of the original fifties Telecaster design, here we have the introduction of a modern 6-saddle, high mass, top-loading bridge, bi-flex truss-rod, sealed Fender tuners and micro-tilt adjustment for the 4-bolt neck. The bridge features the same saddles that were used on the up-market Elite Telecaster model. And check out the rich, chocolaty tone of that dark Rosewood board, shown in pic # 7!!
