Boston based First Act produce some incredible guitars. One of the biggest customers of the First Act Custom Shop is legendary Cheap Trick axe-man, Rick Nielson, while other big name players include Al Jourgensen, (Ministry), Martin Gore, (Depeche Mode), Nick Zinner, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Paul Westerberg, (The Replacements), Rusty Anderson, (from Paul McCartney’s touring band), Shonna Tucker, (Drive By Truckers), Aaron North, (Nine Inch Nails), Lars Stromberg, (International Noise Conspiracy)… and many, many more.
US market only
Only available during 2006 - and for the US market only - the GarageMaster uses First Act’s exclusive V-Stack Technology, (which replicates the sound of several famous vintage amps), to incorporate a built-in pre-amp, that lets you plug the guitar directly into any car stereo system that has an Aux In socket on the front. The guitar came free to American buyers of selected Volkswagens, including Beetle, Jetta and Rabbit models. The supplied guitar lead has a standard plug on one end and a mini-jack on the other, for plugging into a car stereo system, but using a standard lead, you can plug into any guitar amp, as normal.
VW logo
The engraved serial number plate on the back of the headstock matches the actual vehicle that the guitar was supplied with, while the neckplate features both the First Act and VW logos, plus the guitar’s individual production number. The VW logo is also featured on the tone & volume controls, as well as being inlaid at the 12th fret, while the truss-rod cover features the ultimate hard rockin’ VW logo! (see pics # 4 & 5)
Incredibly well built
The GarageMaster is incredibly well built, to both Volkswagen's and First Act's pro standards – the US radio and television ads promoting the GarageMaster deal featured endorsements by artists such as Slash, John Mayer and Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tuffnel, with music specially recorded by Josh Abraham and CJ Vanston. Along with the built-in pre-amp, the GarageMaster’s features are top-flight all the way: stylish body lines; brilliant Arctic White finish; Black scratchplate & control panels; thick, East Indian Rosewood fretboard; tune-o-matic bridge; string-through tailpiece; plus twin Vintage Classic humbuckers that really crank!
