Many, (MANY), players will tell you there’s simply no better all-round acoustic guitar than a Gibson J-45. Players such as Gillian Welch, John Hiatt, Robert Zimmerman, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, Jeff Tweedy… you get the idea. The sum of the J-45’s parts never fail to come together in anything less than completely wonderful.
Vintage-style
Solid Sitka Spruce top; solid Mahogany back & sides; solid Mahogany neck, (flat C-profile); Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, (pearl dot inlays on both); tall, vintage-style X-bracing, (hand-scalloped); Grover Rotomatic tuners; traditional 3-ply top binding; gloss nitro finish.
Stage ready
And if all of the above wasn’t enough, your J-45 is one hundred percent stage ready, courtesy of the factory fitted under-saddle piezo pickup. Pop the latches on the case and you’re good to go, with all the bottom end and mids to make a powerful rhythm statement, and the high end sparkle that sets these legendary guitars apart from just about everything else.
Condition
In fantastic condition, this 2012 model J-45 Standard remained unplayed new stock at a store in Sydney for two years, before finding itself an owner in 2014 – and it still doesn’t have much in the way of playtime on it! Honestly, this could pass for something sparingly used for no more than twelve months.
A big win
Weighing just under 4lb 15oz – considerably lighter than a D-28, in a big win for Mahogany over Rosewood – you could play an entire gig with this machine around your neck and barely notice. (Bear in mind that that weight includes the pickup, wiring and battery pack – and it’s still lighter than a D-28 with no pickup!)
