There’s Les Pauls and there’s Les Pauls. There’s good Les Pauls, there’s some that are a bit on the average side, and every so often there’s one that really stands out from the pack. This is definitely one of the latter!
The very best guitars

Born to rock
This guitar was clearly BORN TO ROCK, and had spent most of its life rocking its way all over North America, the UK, chunks of Europe and even Japan, but until now it had never made it to Australia. Showing considerably less wear than you’d expect for an axe that’s racked up so many frequent flier points, there’s a few small dings here and there, but certainly nothing major. The neck is dead straight, the action is perfect and there’s only minimal fret wear, (see pic # 6).
It plays beautifully
The carved, AAA-flame Maple top is not over-the-top, with the Wine Red nitro finish holding exactly the right degree of subtlety for class, not arse. (RIP Billy Thorpe) The dark Cherry-stained back is a single, nicely grained slab of Mahogany, and the Mahogany neck features the classic 1959/60 Les Paul profile, fitting your hand perfectly, and – listen to the soundfile – it plays beautifully. A perfect Les Paul weight, at 8lb 12oz, (3.95kg), the guitar has around 13 seconds of natural sustain – it’s a complete win, every way you look at it!
From days gone by
As you can no doubt tell from the soundfile, the calibrated set of Burstbucker Pro pickups, with Alnico V magnets - for extra bite and grunt - have a real edge to them, evoking the spit and snarl of Gibson humbuckers from days gone by. Wax-potted, to eliminate microphonic squeal, these pickups can carve out your classic Led Zepp riffs or Neil Young’s soloing on ‘Cowgirl In The Sand’ like it was built for it!
