Right place, right time – we were so lucky to score this one! Only produced across 1967/68, and only available in Fiesta Red as a custom order to a handful of major Japanese music stores, the number of these guitars outside Japan is miniscule.
Warm and woody
As we noted at the front, prices on the assorted Yamaha SG and Guyatone LG models have gone crazy in the time since the first COVID lockdowns. And the minute you plug this beauty in, you’ll understand why. The neck pickup is warm and woody, making it – believe it or not – fabulously suited to jazz, and even surf. Sixties as!
Mosrite shaping; Maple neck, with a profile very close to the modern-C; 25” scale slab Rosewood fingerboard, with microdot inlays; fifties/sixties low-narrow frets, (that look almost unplayed!); offset-style tremolo system; great roller bridge, (with click-adjustable intonation); those killer pickups, with 3-way switching; and check out those cool volume and tone knobs – sixties as!
Amazing condition
And that awesome headstock – in matching Fiesta Red, no less. And the big, almost full body scratchplate, which is fully intact and solid, (with not a single screw-hole crack). At more than 55 years old, the entire guitar is in just amazing condition.

By the way, these Guyatone single coil pickups have acquired quite a following over the years, and like the Ry Cooder gold-foil pickups, can now sell separately for hundreds of dollars.
