Of the two Eric Clapton signature models that Martin have produced – this and the fancier, more glittery 000-42EC – the 000-28 outperforms the snazzy model on all fronts: more volume; a warmer, more rounded tone; better string definition; and a subtle, but definite edge in overall playability. And don’t just take our word for it, here’s EC himself, “Don’t get me wrong, I love my 000-42EC Martins. The craftsmanship and detail are superb. But… the 000-28EC model is the best-sounding acoustic guitar I’ve ever played!” As the French language magazine ad to the right verifies, it’s a little marvel!
Build quality is superb
The build quality is superb – of course – with features including a solid Sitka Spruce top and solid Indian Rosewood back & sides, plus a hand-shaped Mahogany neck, (soft-V profile), topped with a solid Ebony fingerboard. This brilliant 2006 model 000-28EC is in Excellent+ condition, ready to gig with, straight out of the case. It is without a doubt the best sounding one of these we have ever heard.
Top-line Martin features
Other top-line Martin features are a bone nut and saddle; Ebony bridge; vintage-style Martin headstock, with vintage V-shape volute, (see pic # 7); and a herringbone soundhole rosette. The body is X-braced, with solid, 5/16” Sitka Spruce spars. The fingerboard inlays are a stylized snowflake design, (Martin calls them “diamonds and squares”), and the Eric Clapton signature is inlaid at the 20th fret in mother-of-pearl. The finish is a hand polished gloss all over, with vintage toner for the Spruce top.
As mentioned above, the guitar is in Excellent+ condition, with just some very light playwear here and there, none of which would photograph, other than the small patch of playwear at the soundhole, near the high-e string, (see pic # 5).
Free courier delivery
Freshly fitted with a new set of our favorite acoustic strings, (Red Brand lights), this 000-28EC sings like a bird, on everything from delicate picking to hard-working blues, and is all ready to blow someone’s mind on Christmas morning. It comes in its original Martin hard shell case, (pic # 8), and FREE COURIER DELIVERY is included to any address in Australia. ($100 airfreight to New Zealand, $175 to the USA, Canada, UK and mainstream European countries)
NOTE: Still in the case, the factory supplied end-pin has never been fitted. Martin no doubt assume that many players will opt to have an acoustic pickup installed, therefore leaving the end-hole free for an endpin jack. Whether the guitar will be played live, in the studio, or just casually strummed around the house, we can install a top-of-the-range LR Baggs M1 Active sound-hole pickup, at our cost, of only $250
