We believe the second Stewart Male guitar we currently have listed for sale was built for Stewart’s own use, however this one was a 1997 custom build, for a well-known Melbourne player. When you really want a Les Paul
As with most Stewart Male guitars, appearances can be deceiving. You’re looking at a Strat-style axe, you expect it to sound like a Strat. Not this beauty. Loaded up with its trio of original DiMarzio ‘Super Distortions’, here’s a guitar that’ll take you places most Strats just can’t reach, with real gristle in those pointy-end highs and a mellowness to the lower midrange that usually only comes on something with ‘Gibson’ printed on the headstock.
Tone union
A bit meatier than most Strats, at 8lb 14ox / 4kg, but well short of many Les Pauls, the solid Mahogany body and birdseye Maple neck mesh together in one of the classic guitar timber combinations, enhancing the might of the DiMarzios in a tone union that thrills and delights at every turn.
Condition is astonishing
For a guitar that was played professionally, the condition is astonishing – at least Excellent+. There is barely a mark anywhere; the back of the neck, the tuners, even the scratchplate all look almost brand new. There’s next to no wear on the front or back of the body. The first few frets showed the only real signs of wear and we’ve just leveled and re-crowned them back to almost new as well – there’s years of killer playing left on this neck!
The Stewart Male mythos
Speaking of the neck, while nowhere as skinny as a Rickenbacker, the profile is a hair slimmer than today’s regular ‘C’ profile – probably close to what is sometimes called the ‘wizard’ profile. Whatever you call it, it’s smooth, fast and easy-playing, further adding to the Stewart Male mythos.
