VOX. The name that countless artists have relied on, from the company's world famous amps, introduced in 1957, to their equally famous guitar and bass range, debuting in 1961. Instruments and amps of such high quality that they were the brand of reliance for such 'British Invasion' acts as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Kinks, and American acts like James Brown, Willie Nelson and the Box Tops.
Eko in Italy
The incredible worldwide success of those early British Invasion bands resulted in the Vox parent company, Jennings Musical Instruments, being unable to keep up with the sudden worldwide demand, so in 1964 guitar manufacture was transferred to Eko in Italy, where the Tornado was produced from 1965 – 1967.
Last year of production
Judging by the late serial number and the design of the trapeze tailpiece, this all original V247 Tornado is a 1967 model – the last year of production – in lovely three-tone sunburst Italian lacquer. The thick lacquer used by many European guitar builders during the fifties and sixties almost always these days has cracks in it. These are not cracks in the timber and are usually completely stable – they are simply the expected effects of ageing on genuine lacquer finish.

The thinline, archtop Tornado features a single, high output, extended-range pickup, adjustable bridge, front and rear binding, bound f-holes, its original 'Tornado' inscribed pickguard, plus individual tone and volume controls. This magnificent 45 year old guitar has fantastic acoustic projection and medium sustain – perfect for when you're plugged in – and of course, that killer Vox vintage tone.
Amazing necks!
The necks on these guitars are amazing – thin and fast, and some of the strongest ever built – three-piece construction, plus adjustable truss-rod, plus the Vox exclusive, super-rigid 'Double-T' reinforcing beam! Frets are great, the action is perfect and the guitar comes in the purple-lined hard shell case shown in the pictures.
